Hydrochlorothiazide/Generic Microzide is used for:

Treating excess fluid buildup in the body caused by certain conditions or medicines. It may also be used to treat high blood pressure or other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic. It works by helping the kidneys eliminate fluid from your body. Exactly how Hydrochlorothiazide works to treat high blood pressure is unknown.

Do NOT use Hydrochlorothiazide if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Hydrochlorothiazide or to any other sulfonamide medicine (eg sulfamethoxazole, glyburide, acetazolamide)

you are unable to urinate

you are taking dofetilide or ketanserin

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Hydrochlorothiazide :

Some medical conditions may interact with Hydrochlorothiazide. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

if you have gout, liver problems, lupus, kidney problems, diabetes, asthma, parathyroid problems, or high blood cholesterol or lipid levels

if you have low blood sodium, chloride, potassium, or magnesium levels; or high blood calcium levels

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Hydrochlorothiazide. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Cholestyramine, colestipol, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen) because they decrease the effectiveness of Hydrochlorothiazide

Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), narcotic pain medicines (eg, codeine, morphine, fentanyl), or medicines for high blood pressure because side effects of Hydrochlorothiazide may be increased

Diazoxide or nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (eg, tubocurarine) because side effects may be increased by Hydrochlorothiazide

Lithium because risk of toxicity may be increased by Hydrochlorothiazide

Digoxin, dofetilide, or ketanserin because risk of irregular heartbeat may be increased by Hydrochlorothiazide

Diabetes medicines (eg, glipizide, metformin), insulin, or pressor amines (eg, norepinephrine) because the effectiveness may be decreased by Hydrochlorothiazide

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Hydrochlorothiazide may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Hydrochlorothiazide :

Use Hydrochlorothiazide as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Hydrochlorothiazide may be taken with or without food.

When you first start taking Hydrochlorothiazide , it may cause an increase in urine or in frequency of urination. To prevent this from affecting sleep, try not to take any dose later than 6 pm.

If you miss a dose of Hydrochlorothiazide , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Hydrochlorothiazide.

Important safety information:

Hydrochlorothiazide may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Hydrochlorothiazide. Using Hydrochlorothiazide alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks.

Hydrochlorothiazide may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness.

Before you have any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Hydrochlorothiazide.

Hydrochlorothiazide may cause high blood sugar (eg, thirst, increased urination, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, or fruity breath odor). If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor immediately.

Your doctor may have also prescribed a potassium supplement for you. If so, follow the dosing carefully. Do not start taking additional potassium on your own or change your diet to include more potassium without first checking with your doctor.

Hydrochlorothiazide may cause increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Hydrochlorothiazide. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period.

Patients being treated for high blood pressure often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after beginning therapy. Continue taking your medication even though you may not feel quite “normal.” Contact your doctor or pharmacist about any new symptoms.

LAB TESTS, including kidney function, blood pressure, and blood electrolyte levels, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.

Use Hydrochlorothiazide with caution in the ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to its effects.

Hydrochlorothiazide is not recommended for use in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Hydrochlorothiazide during pregnancy. Hydrochlorothiazide is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Hydrochlorothiazide.

Possible side effects of Hydrochlorothiazide :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Blurred vision; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; inability to keep an erection; lightheadedness especially when sitting up or standing; loss of appetite; nausea; rash or itching; redness of the skin; uncontrolled muscle movement.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); confusion; decrease in amount of urine; drowsiness; gout; inflammation of the pancreas; muscle pain or cramps; rapid or irregular heartbeat; restlessness; seizures; unusual thirst; unusual tiredness or weakness; unusually dry mouth; vomiting.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.

Spironolactone is used for:

Treating swelling and fluid retention inpatients with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, or kidney problems (nephrotic syndrome). It is also used for treatment of high blood pressure. It may also be used to treat or prevent low blood potassium. It may also be used to treat excess secretion of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal gland.

Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic. It works by blocking the hormone aldosterone, causing the kidney to eliminate excess water, save potassium, and lower blood pressure.

Do NOT use Spironolactone if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Spironolactone

you are unable to urinate, have severe kidney problems, or have high blood potassium levels

you are taking a potassium supplement, another potassium-sparing diuretic (eg, amiloride, triamterene), or another aldosterone-blocker (eg, eplerenone)

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Spironolactone :

Some medical conditions may interact with Spironolactone. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

if you have high acidity in your body fluids; low sodium levels in your blood; liver, heart, or lung disease; diabetes; or high urea or nitrogen in your blood

if you have menstrual disease

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Spironolactone. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Corticosteroids (eg, prednisone) or ACTH because low blood electrolyte levels may occur

Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital) or narcotics (eg, morphine) because dizziness upon standing may occur

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (eg, enalapril), angiotensin II receptor antagonists (eg, valsartan), cyclosporine, macrolide immunosuppressives (eg, tacrolimus), other potassium sparing diuretics (eg, amiloride, triamterene), other aldosterone-blockers (eg, eplerenone), or potassium supplements because high blood potassium levels may occur (eg, listlessness, confusion, abnormal skin sensations of the arms and legs, heaviness of limbs, slowed heart rate, irregular heart rhythm, potentially life-threatening slow or irregular heartbeat)

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, indomethacin) because they may decrease Spironolactone ‘s effectiveness and increase the risk of kidney problems and high blood potassium

Digoxin, digitoxin, lithium, nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (eg, tubocurarine), or quinidine because the risk of their side effects and toxicity may be increased by Spironolactone

Pressor amines (eg, norepinephrine) because their effectiveness may be decreased by Spironolactone

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Spironolactone may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Spironolactone :

Use Spironolactone as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Take Spironolactone by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation.

Spironolactone may increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often when you first start taking it. To keep this from disturbing your sleep, try to take your dose before 6 pm.

If you miss a dose of Spironolactone , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. If more than one dose is missed, restart the medication and advise your doctor or pharmacist at your next appointment.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Spironolactone.

Important safety information:

Spironolactone may cause dizziness and drowsiness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Spironolactone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.

Spironolactone can raise your body’s potassium levels. This is more likely to occur in people with kidney problems, diabetes, in the elderly, or if the patient is severely ill. Potassium levels must be closely monitored in people with any of these problems or illnesses. If not treated, high potassium levels can be fatal.

Check with your doctor before you use a salt substitute or a product that has potassium in it.

Lab tests, including kidney function, blood pressure, blood potassium, and chemistries, may be performed while you use Spironolactone. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Spironolactone while you are pregnant. Spironolactone is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Spironolactone.

Possible side effects of Spironolactone :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Abdominal cramping; change in sexual ability; clumsiness; confusion; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; headache; frequent urination; nausea; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); breast tenderness; deepening of voice; dry mouth; enlarged breasts in men; excessive thirst; irregular or lack of menstrual periods; skin rash; slow, irregular, or fast heartbeat; ulcers; unusual muscle weakness; unusual tiredness.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.

Furosemide is used for:

Treating fluid build-up and swelling caused by congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or kidney disease. It is also used in combination with other medicines to treat fluid build-up in the lungs. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Furosemide is a loop diuretic. Loop diuretics make the kidneys eliminate larger amounts of electrolytes (especially sodium and potassium salts) and water than normal (diuretic effect). Loop diuretics are useful for treating many conditions in which salt and water retention (eg, edema, swelling) is a problem.

Do NOT use Furosemide if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Furosemide or to sulfonamides

you are unable to urinate

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Furosemide :

Some medical conditions may interact with Furosemide. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

if you have fluid in your abdomen, hearing impairment, liver disease, diabetes mellitus, low urine output, high blood uric acid levels, a blood disorder, kidney disease, lupus, have had a heart attack, or are dehydrated

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Furosemide. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen, indomethacin) because they may decrease the effectiveness of Furosemide

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (eg, captopril), aminoglycosides (eg, gentamicin), ethacrynic acid, or salicylates (eg, aspirin) because serious side effects to the kidneys (decreased ability to urinate) and ears (hearing loss) may occur

Chloral hydrate because side effects, such as excessive sweating, rapid heart beat, and changes in blood pressure, may occur

Digoxin or lithium because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Furosemide

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Furosemide may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Furosemide :

Use Furosemide as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
